In the desolate area of "Ravens Deep" Madeline works on her novel, as well as cleaning up the house and garden to make it more habitable. Her friendship with her only neighbour, Darius, is captivating and all consuming and quickly takes precedence over everything else in Madeline’s life. But Darius himself holds Madeline at arms length. She tries harder and harder to break down the barriers between them and get through the dark clouds that shroud Darius in his darkest moods.

Eventually the tension of the courtship cannot hold any longer and Darius banishes Madeline from Ravens Deep. However, the passion Madeline feels cannot be dampened and she resolves to break her promise never to return.

The darkness of Ravens Deep is cleverly offset against the innocence of humble beginnings. Twists in the story are unexpected and cleverly managed with attention to detail and careful planning. The passion and emotions of the story and the characters are well developed and bring realistic depth to a fictional story.

Jane Jordan marries pace and detail seamlessly to envelop the reader in the world of her making. An unexpected journey through the relationship of the central characters that will make you question the depths and rules of love.
